Undoubtedly, the arrival of the pandemic in early 2020 completely revolutionized our day-to-day working lives. Morning jams to get to the office, coffee with department colleagues, and face-to-face meetings were replaced by so many other habits that, to this day, seem to have been with us forever.
The reality is that long before the COVID era, the Human Resources department of Vector Renewables had already started to think about some good practices to improve the well-being of its employees and help the productivity of the different teams, and although the arrival of the pandemic will accelerate this type of initiatives, being already prepared at that time of uncertainty made the beginning of the confinement much easier.
Today, not only are some of these good practices still in place, but Vector Renewables employees can enjoy many others that we will tell you about in this post. According to a study by the University of Warwick, happy employees are 12% more productive, so why not make it happen?
Among some of the features that Human Resources implements, we can highlight:
Flexibility. This encompasses a set of initiatives focused on improving the work-life balance between personal/family and professional life. At the beginning of 2018, Vector Renewables launched its first 'Telework and flexible hours' program (Which at that time, let's remember, was not so average) that allowed working from anywhere in the national territory for a total of 2 days a week. This initiative was also accompanied by a significant investment in digital tools that allowed all employees to perform their respective jobs without having to go to the office. Today, we can affirm that we are working remotely for an average of 70% of our time with a natural balance between our personal and professional life.
International Mobility . One of the advantages of Vector Renewables is that it has a large international team of people of 22 different nationalities. The company can also boast of having up to 10 offices distributed in strategic countries in Oceania, Asia, Europe and America, which allows a total coverage of the markets in which services are provided. Thus, to reinforce synergies between countries and knowledge sharing between people, the Human Resources team has implemented some 'International Mobility' initiatives, which facilitate the development of new skills by taking advantage of an experience in another country. This is a unique opportunity to improve knowledge in certain areas and to learn first-hand about the opportunities offered by the renewable energy market in other geographies.
Career opportunities. People are our added value. Vector believes in each individual's potential, which is why we are committed to the professional development of our employees by offering technical, management and cross-skills training courses. We are convinced that the strength of a company depends not only on the skills of its employees but also on the ability to unleash them. With upskilling and reskilling programs, we prepare employees for the challenges ahead by maximizing their professional skills. Most of the internal courses are aimed at the entire population, reaching an annual average of 40 hours of training.
Diversity & inclusion. We have adopted a diversity and inclusion policy that clearly articulates the values we believe in, the behaviours we value, and the steps we take to support an inclusive, open and healthy environment. This is also made possible by constantly raising people's awareness through training, outreach and discussion sessions on diversity and inclusion issues. Diversity for us is well explained by the mix of seniority, experience and background we have in the company. If there is one thing that characterizes Vector Renewables, it is its team, our best asset. The opportunity to have managers with years of experience in the sector, in charge of large groups and with different backgrounds is perfectly complemented by new talents from the university. Technical and financial knowledge from years dedicated to this industry and digitalization, new ideas, and trends come together to create added value for the company.
In addition to the previously mentioned practices, at Vector Renewables, we are also committed to other projects to improve internal communication; with global meetings, each employee can share their ideas and propose new initiatives. In addition, we are clear about our offices' role today, so we are building open and sustainable places, with leisure areas for creativity, where encouraging teamwork and personal relationships is the most important thing.
